Sports, health and community building program serving indivduals with intellectual disabilities.
Special Olympics Kentucky has been serving Kentucky for nearly 45 years providing sports training and competition opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Through 15 sports offered in Kentucky, athletes build confidence and self-esteem and gain skills that they take with them off the field and into their jobs and classrooms.
During the last 15 years Special Olympics has extended its role in the lives of our athletes and families, providing free health screenings and services through our Healthy Athletes Initiative and early childhood programs through our Young Athletes Program. Project Unify -- our newest initiative -- is a school-based program that seeks to foster understanding between students with intellectual disabilities and their classmates, improving the school environment for everybody.
